British Academy of Dramatic Combat (BADC) Standard Level Intensive

Dates: Monday 9th August – Tuesday 17th August 2021 (excluding weekend days) 9am - 6pm daily.

VENUE: The Maplesden Noakes School, Great Buckland, Buckland Road, Maidstone, Kent, ME16 0TJ

WHO is it for: Any beginners to stage combat, those without any BADC qualifications or those looking to recertify at Standard Level (Level 1). You must be at least 18 to take part in this course.

Weapons covered: Single Sword & Unarmed (subject to Covid-19 regulations at the time. All weapons are supplied)

What to expect: This course is a intensive in which the students will look to complete 40hrs+ of training in stage combat. During this course, you will learn the safe handling of the weapons, how to wield them in both a martial and historical context and develop their understanding of staged violence. As this is a performance qualification, there will be emphasis on acting and, later in the week, the students will apply the technical knowledge they have attained to a choreographed fight. Here, we will explore character motivation, dramatic intention and how stage combat can be used to create an engaging story. We will also cover staging, the application of these skills and the industry expectations of an actor/combatant.

At the end of the week, the students will have the opportunity to perform their fight scenes in front of a BADC Examiner and become certified with the Academy.
